Young Samurai: The Ring of Earth    By – Chris Bradford

“Hope for the best, prepare for the worst”

Summary

Jack Fletcher is on the run. With no sensei to guide him, he has just his wits and his swords against many new and unknown enemies, as he journeys along the treacherous road to the port of Nagasaki and perhaps home. . . But the Shogun’s samurai are hot on his trail. Barely escaping their clutches, Jack runs headlong into a trap. Kidnapped by ninja and led to their village deep in the mountains, Jack has no means of escape. The only question is who will kill him first—the ninja or samurai?

My Experiences

As I don’t have time to make 5 different blog posts, (I am in the middle of reading Mistborn: Shadows of Self  By – Brandon Sanderson) I decided to make 1 post with all five books. Please don’t read the next blog post until you have completely finished this book.

So while reading this book I felt like Jack Fletcher. Which is a writers every goal (to make the reader feel like the main character. But Jack is in such trouble. Getting to Nagasaki will take a long time and a lot of hard work as well as patience (Thankfully, but unfortunately, it takes 5 books for Jack to finally reach Nagasaki.)

Quotes

“A single tree doesn’t make a forest.”

“A frog in a well does not know the great sea.”

“Even monkeys fall from trees.”

Young Samurai: The Ring of Water    By – Chris Bradford

Summary

JACK FLETCHER IS LEFT FOR DEAD….

AUTUMN, 1614.

Bruised and battered, Jack Fletcher wakes up in a roadside inn wrapped only in a dirty kimono. He has lost everything, including his memory of what happened.

Determined to discover the truth, Jack goes on a quest to retrieve his belongings – his precious swords, his friend Akiko’s black pearl and most important of all, his father’s prize possession.

Relying on his samurai and ninja training, Jack realises The Ring of Water is the key to his survival.

But with only a washed up Ronin – a masterless samurai – for help, what will Jack manage to find? What will he lose? And what will he have to sacrifice?

My Experiences

When reading the summary to this book, I laughed. I was like, there is no way that Jack would have let that happen.

While reading the first few chapters, I was shocked!

Young Samurai: The Ring of Fire    By – Chris Bradford

Summary

Jack Fletcher faces his toughest challenge yet. After a snowstorm forces him to take shelter, Jack comes across a village in need of protection from raiding mountain bandits. Torn between moving on or helping, Jack is persuaded to stay and fight the villagers’ cause. But Jack is the first and only samurai to do so. Now he must enlist other warriors to the villagers’ aid before the bandits return to steal their harvest. No easy task when the reward is so little and he is a foreigner. If only he had his friends to call on. . . Using the Ring of Fire, can Jack overpower the bandits and win?

My Experiences

I have stayed with Jack Fletcher for so long, and now he must do THIS! I am amazed at all the things Chris Bradford throws at him, and all the things Jack must go through to reach Nagasaki.

Young Samurai: The Ring of Wind    By – Chris Bradford

Summary

JACK FLETCHER IS BATTLING THE HIGH SEAS.

Ambushed by the Shogun’s samurai, Jack and his friends have only one hope of escape – the Seto sea. But with ferocious storms, man-eating sharks and ninja pirates at every turn, their chosen route is fraught with danger.

A treacherous crew only adds to their problems as they flee south from a ruthless samurai sea lord. Unless Jack can harness the Ring of Wind, he and his friends are destined for a watery grave…

My Experiences

Jack’s life is filled with nothing but danger. I kind of think Chris Bradford is getting a little redundant, but “oh well”, a good book is a good book.

Quotes

“He who is afraid to shake the dice will never throw a six”

“Boats are safe in a dock, but boats aren’t meant for that.”

Young Samurai: The Ring of Sky    By – Chris Bradford

Summary

Summer, 1615.

JACK FLETCHER IS RUNNING FOR HIS LIFE

The port of Nagasaki is within reach, but the Shogun’s samurai are closing in fast for the kill. So too is Jack’s old school rival, Kazuki. Every road is blocked and every mountain pass guarded as Jack makes his final dash for safety.

But with all of Japan hunting him, he’s going need a miracle to survive. And even if he reaches the end of the road, will there be a ship bound for home? Or will he be burned at the stake first?

Only the Ring of Sky knows his fate…

My Experiences

The EPIC finale to the Young Samurai Series is a serious shocker in my opinion. Jack Fletcher MAY OR MAY NOT RETURN HOME TO ENGLAND . . . Read the book to find out.
