“In my life, I’ve learned when to let stuff go and when to fight. This, babe, what we got, I’ll fight for.”

Summary

Nina Sheridan desperately needs a timeout vacation. With a fiancé who can’t even remember how she takes her coffee, Nina wants some distance to rethink her engagement. Flying halfway around the world from England to a mountain town in Colorado should do the trick. But when she finds a gorgeous man at her rental cabin, Nina’s cold, lonely adventure suddenly heats up.

The owner of the house, Holden “Max” Maxwell is surprised by the beautiful woman who turns up at his door. But when Nina becomes ill, Max spends days nursing her back to health. A private man with a broken heart, Max finds himself drawn to the strong-willed woman. Soon it becomes impossible for Nina and Max to deny their growing attraction to one another. Yet even as these two wounded lovebirds think about taking a chance on a relationship, a dangerous secret from Max’s past emerges-and threatens to end their love for good.

Personal Experiences

This is why I love romance novels. They are so bliss at the end, and it’s so sweet to witness that after all their tragedy and loss, you can still love. It’s beautiful, and bliss, and happy, and lovely. One day, that is what I want to find. Romance novels remind me that no matter how many times you get stepped on, no matter how many times you fall, you call always get back up. There is always a future. Sometimes you just need some help finding it.

This romance novel in particular is very near and dear to my heart. Why? Because it creates a mutual understanding between character and reader.

Quotes

“I was your man, you were halfway around the world from me, honey, I’d phone you … If you told me you needed a timeout, first, I wouldn’t  let you have one. Second, I wouldn’t give you reason to want one. And last, you took off anyway, I’d phone.”

“I looked to the ceiling and told God, “God, next time I want an adventure, strike me with lightning. You have my permission.”

“Shut up and kiss me, Duchess.”
“Max!”
“All right, I’ll kiss you.”

“Learned some things in my life, Duchess, one of the most important, you find a good woman, you take care of her.”
“Please”
“This happens between us, Duchess, I’d take care of you.”
“Don’t”
“Die doin’ it,” he vowed.”

“Bottom line, you didn’t take care of what was yours. Now, as Nina has explained, you’ve lost it, I found it and it’s mine.”

“We girls, we’re tough, darling. Soft on the outside but, deep down, we’re tough.”
