“Maybe part of falling in love with someone else is also falling in love with yourself.”
Natasha: I’m a girl who believes in science and facts. Not fate. Not destiny. Or dreams that will never come true. I’m definitely not the kind of girl who meets a cute boy on a crowded New York City street and falls in love with him. Not when my family is twelve hours away from being deported to Jamaica. Falling in love with him won’t be my story.
Daniel: I’ve always been the good son, the good student, living up to my parents’ high expectations. Never the poet. Or the dreamer. But when I see her, I forget about all that. Something about Natasha makes me think that fate has something much more extraordinary in store—for both of us.
The Universe: Every moment in our lives has brought us to this single moment. A million futures lie before us. Which one will come true?
Sometimes you just read these books, these authors, and their writing ignites something in your heart. Because their writing is just so damn good. That is what Nicola Yoon’s The Sun is Also a Star did to me.
Before and during reading this book, I wondered why Nicola named the book as she did. And then I found this quote:
“Stars are important,” I say, laughing.
“Sure, but why not more poems about the sun? The sun is also a star, and it’s our most important one. That alone should be worth a poem or two.”
If you are a regular reader of my posts, you probably know by now that I am a hopeless romantic. I love reading romance books because I love to know that their lives turn out okay, and maybe mine will too. Nicola Yoon broke my heart and then taped it back together again.
The entire world needs to read this book because they need to know how the people they are deporting from America and those they are denying entry feel like. They are desperate. They will do anything to get a chance at living the American Dream.
Yoon writes with such passion and understanding, she makes you think she has gone through these life changing events. She makes you think you have gone through these events.
Needless to say, I loved loved loved this book. It was the perfect mix of reality, love, and science. I recommend this book to ANYONE and EVERYONE. Don’t die a The Sun is Also a Star virgin.
Last thing. Everyone is given a gift. Some know what their gift is, and use it often. Others know what their gift is, but they refuse to use it. Then there are people who have no clue what their gift is. Nicola Yoon has undeniably found her gift, and she is showing the world. Find your gift. Go on a journey, and try new things in order to find it. And once you find it, use it. Because everyone deserves to see the world enjoying their contribution to the world. ❤❤❤❤❤
“There’s a Japanese phrase that I like: koi no yokan. It doesn’t mean love at first sight. It’s closer to love at second sight. It’s the feeling when you meet someone that you’re going to fall in love with them. Maybe you don’t love them right away, but it’s inevitable that you will.”
“We are capable of big lives. A big history. Why settle? Why choose the practical thing, the mundane thing? We are born to dream and make the things we dream about.”
“I didn’t know you this morning, and now I don’t remember not knowing you.”
“Sometimes your world shakes so hard, it’s difficult to imagine that everyone else isn’t feeling it too.”

*If you are unaware, I have a video on how to use Indie Bound as a resource on how to find books
**Also, if you have a Windows Phone, there is a really good EPUB reader app called Bookviser Reader. You can check out their website here.

I have done this for most of my posts, but if you happen to need a citation for a post that doesn’t have one, again contact me via comments or email. Thank you so much for supporting me and my blog.
